Mental Health Film Series: Since 2010, Bell Let's Talk has helped open the floodgates of conversation about mental health. Leading up to and on the annual Bell Let’s Talk Day, we are showcasing free docs that aim to break the stigma.

In recognition of the potentially triggering content of the participating films, supportive counsellors will be present at each screening.

The pride of his native P.E.I., legendary singer-songwriter Gene MacLellan took his own life in 1995 at the age of 56. His daughter Catherine MacLellan, who was 15 at the time, went on to pursue her own successful career in music. In The Song and the Sorrow, Catherine bravely confronts the pain of her father’s loss while facing her own battles with depression, honouring his musical legacy and exploring his lifelong struggles. Family and peers join her in looking back at his life and the poignant messages of his songs in a moving musical tribute and frank exploration of mental illness.

Rendezvous with Madness Program Director Geoff Pevere will lead a post-screening Q&A with Alex Shendelman, Program Manager of the Traumatic Loss Survivor Support Program at Toronto Distress Centre, and director Millefiore Clarkes (via Skype).
