Alioune Guissé - Sounds of Senegal

Born in Dakar, Senegal in 1975, the author, composer, guitarist and singer Alioune Guissé nicknamed the "Prince of Yela music" had a taste for music from an early age. He distinguished himself at the age of 17 by crossing his two cultural heritages, Foutanké (Peul) and Wolof, developing an original Afro-folk, a fusion of Pulaar music (yela), mbalax, hip-hop and reggae using guitars, percussion (sabar, djembe, calabash) and voices. Alioune is proud of his Fulani and Wolof heritage and sings in his native languages of Wolof and Pulaar.
