Music on Film: Billie with Performance by Quisha Wint & Bill King VOD // Hot Docs at Home
Hot Docs Cinema’s signature partnership series with The Royal Conservatory returns with this advanced virtual screening of one of the year’s most anticipated music docs. Crafted from a newly unvaulted treasure trove of unheard interviews, Billie is the story of the master jazz singer who changed the face of American music. Holiday’s short and controversial life is reconstructed from interviews conducted in the 1970s by journalist Lipnack Kuehl, featuring Charles Mingus, Sarah Vaughan, Tony Bennett, Count Basie, and more. Alongside footage of colour-restored performances, these incredible testimonies capture the complexity and talent of a legend through the eyes of the woman whose obsession would lead to her own untimely end.
Featuring an exclusive post-screening performance by R&B vocalist Quisha Wint, accompanied by pianist Bill King, recorded at Toronto's beautiful Koerner Hall.
In partnership with The Royal Conservatory
