Etienne Charles Trio and Guy Mintus Trio: A Gershwin Playground

This concert was originally scheduled for Saturday, March 6, 2021.

Jazz From Around the World: Trinidad and Israel

Hailed by The New York Times as "an auteur" and by Jazz Times as a, "daring improviser who delivers with heart wrenching lyricism," Trinidad born Etienne Charles brings a careful study of myriad rhythms from the French, Spanish, English and Dutch speaking Caribbean to his compositions. Crucially, as a soloist, he fully grasps the New Orleans trumpet tradition, which is readily discernible in his trademark instrumental swagger, and what famed Crescent City Pianist, Jelly Roll Morton so succinctly captured in the now immortal phrase, 'The Spanish Tinge'.

Israeli pianist Guy Mintus, with a mixed heritage of Iraqi, Moroccan, and Polish Jews, is a “talented young musical emissary who expertly blends the folkloric sounds of his homeland with the improvising aesthetic of jazz” (Ottawa Citizen)

The online stream of this concert will be available for seven days on RoyalConservatory.Live. You can watch the performance as many times as you’d like to! Note: Concert streaming tickets are per household.
