ABOUT THE EXHIBIT

‘Shabbat Shalom’ is an exploration of my Jewishness and how the practice of ‘peaceful rest’ is unique to me. Born in Manila, Philippines to a Persian father and a Spanish-Filipina mother with Jewish ancestry, the Sabbath, and having a day of rest with my family has been a central part of my life. Sabbath has also held special meaning to me as it resembles the last name of my mother’s family, ‘Sabat’. These works take you on a journey through the lens and heart of a young girl named Shanzie. Each piece is an exploration of vibrant worlds or ‘seeds’ with text encourages a moment of rest, devotion, and renewal. As the demands and bustles of life have pushed and pulled me with increasing pace and weight, I have held on to this practice and found my need of ‘Shalom’, encompassing peace, health and wholeness, to be of increasing importance. Today, it has become my heart’s endeavour to position in and remain in ‘Shabbat Shalom’.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Anne Fard, also known as “SHAKERSZWORLD”, creates enchanting mini art collections that captivate children and the child within us all. With a Master of Science in nutrition and epigenetics from the University of Toronto, Anne brings a unique blend of science and artistry, exploring how our environment shapes us. Anne has collaborated with prestigious institutions like the Ontario Science Centre and Shangri-La Hotel, Toronto. Her works has earned recognition at DesignTO for Reminisce (2021 People’s Award) and Terram (2022 People’s Choice). Anne’s stories spark joy and wonder, inspiring us to connect more deeply with ourselves and the world around us.
