The Van Doos, 100 Years with the Royal 22e Régiment
Canada’s Royal 22e Régiment celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. In 1914, amidst the turmoil of World War I, the Canadian government authorized the formation of the only French-speaking battalion to fight in the Great War. The regiment is lauded for its distinguished efforts not only in Europe and Korea, but also in the former Yugoslavia and Afghanistan. Claude Guilmain’s documentary The Van Doos: 100 Years with the Royal 22e Régiment integrates personal stories, letters, and archival images, bringing a little-known page of our history books to life in a vibrant elegy to those no longer with us.
Directed by Claude Guilmain.
Screening in French with English subtitles, in partnership with the National Film Board of Canada and the Canadian Forces College.
With the participation of the director Claude Guilmain, the Brigadier-General J.R. Giguère, former Commanding Officer of the Royal 22e Régiment, current Commandant of the Canadian Forces College and Claude Joli-Coeur, the Government Film Commissioner, NFB Chairperson.
