Bob Mackie is coming to Hot Docs Cinema for a weekend of dazzling glamour!

Escape the dreary January blues with the Canadian Premiere of Bob Mackie: Naked Illusion, a captivating new documentary offering an intimate look at the life and six-decade career of the legendary costume and fashion designer. Directed by Matthew Miele (Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf's), the film delves into Mackie’s unique upbringing, pivotal relationships, and surprising familial revelations that shaped his unfiltered creativity and audacious work. Featuring rare access to his meticulously curated archive, the documentary showcases dazzling costumes from sketch to stage and highlights the fading artistry of old-world artisans.

The film also features interviews with collaborators and admirers—Cher, Tom Ford, Mitzi Gaynor, Carol Burnett, RuPaul and more—while Mackie himself reflects on his most iconic designs, from the Scarlett O’Hara dress on The Carol Burnett Show to Cher's showstopping 1986 Academy Awards look.

Both screenings include exclusive Q&As with Bob Mackie and his longtime design director Joe McFate.
