Thursday January 30     The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman Book reviewer: Denise Drabkin Who wouldn’t leap at the chance to spend their golden years in a retirement village snugly set in the English countryside? To this, add the option of joining a club that aims to solve cold cases on the quiet – simultaneously an ingenious way of stimulating those little grey cells that a famous detective, Hercule Poirot, appreciates so much. However, a crime is about to be committed in the heart of their community and the members of the group have their very first live (or dead) case to investigate. Will their efforts be taken seriously by the local police? What handy skills and experience have they accumulated in each of their long lives? Should they accept being dismissed and disrespected by the much younger detectives? All yours to find out in this novel of investigative shenanigans, shocking confessions and plot twists! Join us live on Zoom simulcast or register to receive the recording! Denise Drabkin is a retired library manager who thoroughly enjoyed a 40-year career in public libraries. Denise worked in three different library systems on two continents, including the Toronto Public Library, and is a firm believer in libraries as the great levelers on the playing field of life. A long-time member of the Miles Nadal JCC Book Club, Denise volunteers her time to curate and lead each gathering, offering insightful reviews and a balance of books that are meaningful, timely and inclusive. All books are available through the Toronto Public Library, many with audio and e-versions. Previous titles have included: The Promise; The Island of Sea Women; The Company We Keep; Manikatenish and The Tunnel. We are delighted to welcome Denise back as our reviewer this season!
