While heroes are in short supply in US politics, Hollywood comedy director and screenwriter Steve Pink (Hot Tub Time Machine, High Fidelity) finds an intriguing semblance of one in young Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger, who represented Illinois from 2011 to 2023 and with whom Pink shares a humorous, spiky rapport. 

One of just 10 Republicans who voted to impeach Trump in 2021, a key member of the January 6 Committee, and an outspoken Harris/Walz supporter, Kinzinger represents Pink’s home state and—the clincher—his favourite movie is Hot Tub Time Machine. But the two men have almost no political views in common. Is Kinzinger extraordinarily courageous, a future leader to watch? Or is he just another Reagan-loving Midwestern dude who simply chose common sense in the face of Trump-ism?
