It's almost the end of summer, so it’s time for the ultimate end-of-summer movie. The yearning, the footwork, the coming-of-age shenanigans—it can only be Dirty Dancing. Set against the nostalgic backdrop of the Kellerman’s Catskills resort in the summer of 1963, 17-year-old Frances “Baby” Houseman (Jennifer Grey) is sure of two things: she can’t wait to join the Peace Corps, and she’ll never find a guy as great as her dad. And then dance instructor Johnny, dreamily played by Patrick Swayze, waltzes into her life. As their partnership—and relationship—deepens, Baby and Johnny explore what life could be like if they didn’t always follow the prescribed steps. Dirty Dancing remains a classic not just for the iconic soundtrack, choreography, and electric chemistry between the two leads, but for the depth of a narrative crafted by a woman, for women.
