Throwback on an unusual reign, Pharaoh Akhenaten and the cult of the sun-god Aten

Jean Revez, Egyptologist, tells the story of Akhenaten’s reign, a one of a kind Pharaoh who revolutionized religious beliefs and art during his time.

Jean Revez is a professor of history at UQAM (University of Quebec in Montreal). Jean Revez completed graduate studies in Egyptology at Heidelberg and Paris. He then completed a PhD in history and civilization from antiquity at the Paris-Sorbonne University. In addition to participating in the excavations of the University of Toronto, he undertakes several missions in Egypt, including in Karnak, where he works for the French permanent mission of the CNRS. He regularly stays in Toronto, as part of an epigraphic survey program of the University of Memphis (USA) and a research project for the GRCAO from the University of Montréal. On the philological, he published previously unseen hieroglyphic texts (stele 94CL1013 of Karnak and stele of the Cairo Museum BN311).
