Remembering Sandra Henderson: A Snapshot of her Art
Remembering Sandra Henderson: A Snapshot of her Art
Sandra Henderson (1944-2020) AOCA (1956).
A juried member of OSA & CSA.
Sandra was a realist and semi-abstract painter working mainly in oils and acrylics. Known for her great portraits, she joined a group in 2006 called the Arctic Quest, where she painted scenes of the Canadian High Arctic. She produced many landscapes from her travels in Barbados, the Arctic, Newfoundland, Provence and her beloved Ashby Lake. Her latest foray was in abstract works, where her fine composition and sense of colour shine through.
She had two solo exhibitions and has exhibited her work in group exhibitions. Her work on display at the Ruth Upjohn Gallery, “Lady with the Pearl Necklace”, was selected for the cover of the Rochester Arts Club brochure for its joint exhibition with the Arts & Letters Club in 2006.
She was an active member of the Women’s Art Association of Canada and sat on the board of directors as curator and co-chair of House. She was also an active member of the OCAD Alumni Association.
This show displays a sample of her work in oil, acrylic and pastel, along with portfolios of works on paper: pastels, prints, pen and ink, woodcuts. Sketchbooks from her travels to Cuba, the arctic and Georgian Bay will also be on display.
