Celebrating Indigenous Stories: Spudwrench: Kahnawake Man VOD // Hot Docs at Home

After documenting the 1990 Oka Crisis in her groundbreaking work, Kanehsatake: 270 Years of Resistance, acclaimed filmmaker Alanis Obomsawin returned behind the barricades—this time telling the story of the historic land dispute through the lens of one of its iconic activists: Randy Horne. A steelworker from the Mohawk community of Kahnawake, near Montreal, Horne—or “Spudwrench”—takes us on the ground with him as he leads an impassioned resistance in defense of his people, culture, and sacred territory. As urgent now as when it was released in 1997, the film is both a portrait of Horne, and a unique look at the generations of daring Mohawk construction workers that preceded him.
