As a result of Duchenne muscular dystrophy, Mats Steen becomes increasingly unable to participate in everyday activities and spends most of his time playing video games, especially World of Warcraft, where Ibelin—his alter-ego—lives a rich life where he makes friends, falls in love and offers support to his peers. 

Towards the end of his life, he starts a blog about living with the disease. When he dies at the age of 25, he leaves behind the password to his writings. His family uses the blog to announce his death, which inspires his online gaming pals to come together around their late friend.
