Ginger Snaps - 25th Anniversary

Made in Canada: Homegrown films by homegrown filmmakers.

A sharp feminist narrative, smart thematic writing and wicked humour make this cult-classic horror well worth a (re-)watch.

Stuck in the mindless suburbia of Bailey Downs, Ontario, outcast teenage sisters Ginger and Brigitte are more interested in creating tableaux of death and suicide than going to parties. They make a pact with each other: Out by sixteen or dead on the scene—but always together. After Ginger gets her first period and is attacked by a dog, she experiences a strange transformation—she sprouts hair, grows a tail, and develops the desire to tear living things to pieces. Written by Karen Walton and John Fawcett (Orphan Black), and directed by Fawcett, Ginger Snaps shines in the Canadian film canon for innovating the lycanthrope trope, centering the emotions of the eponymous werewolf teen through her monstrous transformation and the close bond between the sisters.
