P.S. Burn This Letter Please
Pride Projected: Celebrate Pride with must-see documentaries, special events and screenings!
When an almost 60-year-old box of letters is discovered, they prompt an investigation into a long-hidden part of LGBTQ+ history. All addressed “Dear Reno,” the letters were written in the 1950s by a group of New York City drag queens—or female impersonators or femme illusionists, as some prefer to identify. The authors, now in their 80s and 90s, finally have the chance to share their stories, revealing how they survived and flourished at a time when drag queens were both revered and reviled, even within the LGBTQ+ community. Called “brash, bedazzling, sweet and poignant” by The Hollywood Reporter, this vital and vivid testimony is artfully crafted with original interviews, never-before-seen archival footage and photographs, and stylized recreations that all offer a glimpse of a pre-Stonewall era life.
