Xanadu Sing-Along
With a premise deemed “utterly ludicrous,” “nonsense” and a “total dud” by critics, and so baffling that it in part inspired the creation of the annual Razzie Awards that celebrate the worst films of the year, Xanadu is nothing if not iconic.
Struggling freelance artist Sonny Malone (Michael Beck) is trapped in a dull job painting album covers when he is suddenly enraptured by an unknown woman (Olivia Newton-John) who appears in the background of the photograph of one of his assignments. When he visits the auditorium where the photo was shot, Sonny finds the mysterious beauty: Kira, an ageless Greek muse, who encourages him to team up with Danny McGuire (Gene Kelly), a former big band clarinet player and band leader turned construction mogul to build a roller disco!
A surreal musical featuring hit songs including “Magic,” “Suddenly” and, of course, “Xanadu,” choreography by Kenny Ortega, Gene Kelly’s final performance in a feature film, and a dazzling performance by the one and only ONJ, Xanadu is about nothing, everything and roller-skating.
Forty-five years after its original release, see Xanadu on the big screen, sing along, and decide for yourself: on-screen disaster or misunderstood pop-glitter masterpiece?
Doors will open 60 minutes prior to the screening.
