Sudan, Remember Us
From Watermelon Pictures, the film production and distribution team behind The Encampments, comes a powerful portrait of Sudanese youth rising up against the life-threatening actions of those forces that seek control of their country.
Filmmaker Hind Meddeb travelled in 2019 to Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, to capture a significant moment in the country’s history. The 30-year regime of dictator Omar Al-Bashir had been overthrown, following immense conflict and the horrific genocide in Darfur. The filmmaker documents demonstrations, celebrations and calls for justice – the cautious yet hopeful spirit of youth who are ready for Sudan to heal and progress. But any peace is short lived, and conflict, war and displacement are once again on the horizon.
Sudan, Remember Us follows a generation of young Sudanese artists and activists who rise against a brutal army and paramilitary militias with nothing but their words, dreams, and a defiant spirit. Through poetry, chants, and imagination, they fight for freedom, proving that even unarmed voices can spark a revolution.
In Arabic and English, with English subtitles.
