Girl Internet Show: A Kati Kelli Mixtape

Truth and Dare: Celebrating the most mind-expanding, form-pushing works emerging from the documentary world with a one-of-a-kind, can’t miss event!

“When I make these videos, it’s like my bleeding, pulsing organs are spread across the internet for everyone to taste.” – Kati Kelli

Kati Kelli was a Los Angeles-based video artist whose work combined satire of online influencer culture with a grotesque aesthetic reminiscent of Tim and Eric. By the time of her passing in 2019 following an asthma attack, she had produced dozens of YouTube videos, as well as Total Body Removal Surgery, which Kelli regarded as her first proper short film. Girl Internet Show: A Kati Kelli Mixtape is a compilation of Kelli’s greatest hits, lovingly curated by Jane Schoenbrun (I Saw the TV GlowWe’re All Going to the World’s Fair) and Kelli’s widow, filmmaker Jordan Wippell. We could try to describe the content of Kelli’s videos, but their titles (“Drunk Beverly Hills Wine Mom Dance”, “Sensual Creature Sluts it Up”) tend to sum them up perfectly.

If you found yourself wishing that early-to-mid-2010s YouTube comedy had been more perverse and creepy, you will love Kati Kelli. Over the course of 80 minutes, Girl Internet Show beautifully captures Kelli’s progression from bedroom YouTuber to accomplished director.

Join us after the film for a Zoom Q&A with curators Jane Schoenbrun and Jordan Wippell.
