CANCELLED The Chile Trilogy: The Cordillera of Dreams (2019)
"In Chile, when the sun rises, it had to climb hills, walls and tops before reaching the last stone of the Cordillera. In my country, the Cordillera is everywhere. But for the Chilean citizens, it is an unknown territory." - Patricio Guzmán
Winner of the Best Documentary Award at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, master filmmaker Patricio Guzmán’s The Cordillera of Dreams completes his late-career trilogy investigating the relationship between historical memory, geography and political trauma inflicted under Pinochet in his native country of Chile. Intertwining breathtaking cinematography with the contemplations of artists and writers, Guzmán takes us on a sprawling journey across the Andes, the majestic and enigmatic mountain range ("cordillera") that holds the key to understanding the nation's past—and its unfolding future. Along with its precursors Nostalgia for the Light and The Pearl Button, this powerful conclusion brings Chile’s history and landscapes to life with the awakening force of poetry.
